The UK’s First NHS High Energy Proton Beam Therapy Unit is Completed

12:00 - 12:30
6 June 2018

The £100m installation of the UK’s first NHS funded Proton Beam Therapy unit (PBT) will be completed, and the first patients treated, later this year.

This remarkable scheme has many highly innovative aspects including:

• The project management team’s ability to persuade NHS England to adopt a Procurement 21 framework facilitating it’s time and cost-efficient development (this was the largest value project of its kind at the time)
• Exceptional engineering to effectively harness the high energy proton beam technology
• Pioneering patient services provision
• Considerable cost-efficiencies i.e. non-hospital accommodation contracts
• World-leading PBT research facilities
